The first six weeks...

of 2026 are over...is this approach to the year working so far? I think, yeah!

The Anchor

If I had to pick the thing in my portfolio that was the anchor for the last six weeks, it would be paid work. Perhaps it was because I knew that the contract I was in (in its current state) would last for the first six weeks into the new year. This was easy to define as the anchor.

Although not set in stone, knowing where 25% of my weeks were going helped plan other things around it.

The Focus

Health and Fitness - no, not because it was a New Year's resolution, rather something that I had been thinking of towards the end of 2025. The delay was procrastination in the form of trying to pick the right gym for me. Nevertheless, I got there and as I enter week eight, it is still on the radar.

The Positive

  • Most days, I successfully curbed food consumption by 7 PM, allowing myself exceptions for social outings.

  • Over the six weeks, my morning weight dropped by 2.5kg. While I’m not at my ideal weight, I feel much better overall.

  • Choosing a gym within walking distance has been a game-changer. Even on bad days, the simple act of going adds 3-4k steps to my day, reinforcing walking as a healthy habit.

The Perspective

Reflecting on the last two weeks of my contract, I realize that increased social activities—breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and cocktails with colleagues—were valuable for building bonds, even if they disrupted my exercise routine. This six-week period has shown me that while habits can form, it’s impossible to focus on every area of one’s portfolio simultaneously. Something always has to give.

The Next 6-Week Cycle (Phase 2)

For the next phase, my anchor will be family, with a focus on exploration. Paid work will take a backseat as I figure out its place in my portfolio. I’m curious to see whether my health and fitness focus will evolve or if the habits I’ve built will stick.

What are your goals for the next six weeks?
