Photo taken on a weekend walk along the Thames
Two and a half weeks into the new contract and I realised that I was still 'hotdesking' but I had gravitated to the same desk every morning. For a change, I intentionally went and sat at a completely different hot desk towards the end of the week, which not only through me a little, it expedited my getting a 'permanent' desk. Much of Friday was spent working out the best way to rearrange a pod in order to make me feel part of the team.
That seemingly small action that I did as a bit of a laugh for myself and to see if I could sit at every hot desk before getting a permanent home in the office paid dividends, I think. I did actually need to take myself for a walk to prepare myself for the move.
In all seriousness, the department is set to increase head count by 40% between now and the end of March 2025 so I forecast a bit more Feng Shui and musical chairs in a positive way.
How was Week 3 more generally?
Let's get the weight out of the way first
An awful week on this score. It was my first full 5 day week (more on that below) but I also had a self-inflicted rough start to the week, which had an immediate impact on my diet and well, that was that. In addition, a woman's menstrual cycle coming into play has an effect on energy levels and therefore everything else. Let's see if I can get this back on track next week.
The first full 5 day week - in an office....
I shan't lie. I'm cream crackered (knackered) this week. I did however, manage to get to a couple of sites this week so whilst I was in the office every day, I also managed to get out in the cold face, including a site visit to the hospital in which I was born.
To say that I got to see behind the scenes including the passage ways in the basement is an understatement - a site that was build in the 1950s - still going strong and still seems to have space around it for further building works.
The week ahead will be 4 days due to previously committed holiday.
Caffeine update
I've managed to cap this at two per day and have gotten better at making some in a flask on a morning. Now that I know the machine works in the office, the second one normally comes from there.
On balance, I've been shoddy with the money leak for this sort of thing over the last 3 weeks but this is now getting tracked....and will become a regular, probably monthly comment.
My social life has not suffered at all and although I was physically exhausted this week, I did get out and cover a lot of London by the river this weekend - no less than 20K steps - keep moving...
For now, did I mention we're hiring? Drop me a line or join me at the Portfolio People social on October 9th to find out more.
