As we hit the last week of February, I'm already aware how my March portfolio is going to be a very different month to the first two months of the year.
During the month of February, I've also had the opportunity to catch up with a friend who has got their current portfolio more or less the way they want it - that prospect looked bleak in the summer! I've also had initial chats with a new potential client about reorganising their portfolio.
Where am I at now?
The day job
Whilst the contract I am in still has 12 months left on it, this phase of the project ends at the end of February. Apart from organic snagging, as of 1st March, it goes into phase 2 and with that comes uncertainty (for me) of specific role and responsibilities.
The positive is with this comes the opportunity to explore ways of working - for example, I would want to do more site based and remote work, as well as ensure that the scope of my role is reclarified. Looking forward to holding myself accountable this time next month about ensuring these conversations have happened.
The extra curricular/freelance
The first couple of weeks saw some more The English-Speaking Union competition heats ahead of the February half term. Things are quieter now on this front and space has been created to make way for something else. At the time of writing, I will only be doing this once in March.
The volunteer part of the portfolio
This month, my engagement with my Toastmasters International activities have taken me to a virtual training engagement in California, a formal business meeting and training in the South of the UK and running speech contests. The variety has been great though slightly more time intensive than in January.
Once again, it looks like this has been put in check again for March in order to create more space for what next....
And the big one....
Making space. I type this at the end of a long weekend away. Making (physical) space and the other types of space is a must for me this year. It all starts with ensuring that I have at least a day, a weekend and possibly more every month. There's been periods of deep work over the course of the weekend, along with inspirational chats, quiet time and relaxation. This is firmly built in to the portfolio and the space is appearing for March...
